Leighton Park School

School Profile

'We believe we are a leading school because we have consistently high pass rates at both GCSE and A Level, we provide a caring and compassionate community encouraging mutual respect and we develope students self discipline and nurture personal growth and confidence.'

Leighton Park is more than just a school. Here is a community where young people have time to learn, time to seize opportunities and time to discover who they are, providing them with an enriching preparation for life.

Academic excellence is a constant feature. Expectations are high, and frequently exceeded, which is reflected in consistent success in public examinations, with an A level pass rate at least 97% over for the last eight years. However, young people at Leighton Park are also encouraged to grow and flourish in many other ways too: from sport, music and art, to the many other opportunities on offer.

At Leighton Park, the boarding houses form the heart of the community, for both weekly and full boarders and day pupils. Weekly boarders enjoy a busy week from Sunday evening until after school on Friday: with no Saturday lessons, they can relish a good weekend with their family. The junior house, Fryer, for years 7 and 8, provides a homely bridge between prep or primary school and life in the four senior boarding houses. Leighton Park is not a 9-3 school but a 24/7 community, with boarders and day pupils enjoying activities, tea, prep or just hanging out with friends in the house after school.

The Sixth form thrives, housed in the brand new Caradon Sixth Form Centre, with virtually all students progressing to university. The campus style of house living at Leighton Park and independence of Sixth Form life helps prepare students for life in further education.

"It is wonderful to see my children turning into very caring and thoughtful adults, and their academic potential too is being realised. Both academically and socially, their schooling is second to none." A Leighton Park parent (Year 11 and Sixth Form).

"I've spent most of my life in a school of a thousand or more which tends to swamp you as an individual. Here the talents of each person are noticed and encouraged - I've always been a singer but have never performed. So far I have participated in every soloists' concert and have come to believe in my own abilities, something I had never done before": A Sixth Former

"I left Leighton Park a confident and happy person. I felt prepared for whatever the rest of my life had in store." Old Leightonian.
