The Licensed Victuallers' School is a unique and successful independent day and boarding school catering for 900 pupils aged 4½ to 18. It is a school for all the family, providing a seamless progression through the years and across the full ability spectrum. Its co-educational history stretches back 200 years.
LOCATION
LVS is located a short distance from Royal Ascot and ideally situated within easy reach of London. It is readily accessible from the M3, M4 and M25 motorways, as well as Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Ascot station is on the London Waterloo to Reading line.
AIMS
LVS aims to develop caring, confident citizens and to fulfil the academic potential of every student and to encourage the development of those various interests and skills which contribute to a fuller enjoyment of life, both for the present and the future.
We encourage students to give of their best, whether their goal is University entrance, success at GCSE, honour on the sports field, artistic endeavour or coping with the trials and tribulations of growing up. Perseverance is highly respected here and responsibility is nurtured.
JUNIOR SCHOOL
The Junior School caters for Infants and Juniors aged from 4½ - 11. Small classes enable every pupil to receive a generous amount of individual attention. This is provided by a dedicated team of class teachers and LSAs. Our aim is to realise each child's full learning potential through an enriching, stimulating broad and challenging curriculum both within the classroom and through a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
We provide a secure, happy and flexible school environment in order to foster confidence, self-esteem and respect for others in all our children.
FACILITIES
The school commands a 26 acre site with purpose built accommodation, which includes 8 specialist laboratories, a magnificent theatre with its state-of-the-art sound and light systems, indoor swimming pool, sports hall and movement/dance studio, medical centre and 4 boarding houses. A newly opened Performing Arts Centre in September 2005 provides superb facilities for Music and Drama. At the heart of the school lies "The Street", a glazed concourse from which the main facilities radiate, and which acts as a natural meeting area for our pupils.
The recent opening of our new Sixth Form Centre ensures that the best available resources are in place for our 150 Post-16 students. The building, which commemorates the bi-centenary of the school 1803-2003, also incorporates a new Learning Resource Centre, which is available to all pupils.
WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER
The school offers a broad academic programme based firmly on the requirements of the National Curriculum, but with the added feature of a wide range of GCSE, A Level and Applied options, catering for each individual pupil's strengths. All our pupils benefit from the very favourable teacher/pupil ratio. Courses, from the age of 11, are set according to ability with 6 to 7 sets per year group in the senior school.
An extensive range of activities and extra-curricular clubs and societies operate at lunch times and immediately after school, enabling our pupils to achieve in areas outside the classroom whatever their age or interests. The Duke of Edinburgh Scheme is an integral part of our work here at LVS.
We have full boarding and weekly boarding facilities as well as a large number of day pupils from the local area, for which an Extended Day facility is offered to assist professional working couples. Daily bus services run from the Camberley, Lightwater and Windlesham area. A bus is also available from Gerrards Cross, Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead.
