School Profile
Wellington School , Somerset
Wellington School was founded as Wellington Academy in 1837 and throughout the twentieth century its national reputation as one of England's leading Public Schools grew and remains today. Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty with the North and South Devon coasts, Exmoor and Dartmoor all within an easy hour's drive, the School offers an outstanding education to 700 boys and girls aged 11 - 18.
The School retains the qualities of community and competition of a thriving boarding school, with the Chapel at the heart of the School and of the day. The School has never lost sight of its reputation for providing a high quality, academically rigorous education for boys and girls and the friendly, open and practical nature of our students reflects such diversity.
We have a reputation for academic excellence but we are not a hot house, believing that young people flourish through breadth of opportunity. With particular strengths in sport, the performing arts and the CCF, we encourage them to take advantage of their privilege and to gain the confidence that will set them up for bright futures.
Nearby Taunton is a 2¼ hour train journey from London Paddington making the school a realistic rural alternative to busy London schools or for parents who wish to re-locate yet still work in the City. Only 2½ hours from Heathrow and within an hour of Bristol and Exeter airports, the school is equally attractively located for pupils from further afield. Our enviable position close to the M5 makes us attractive to parents throughout the South West.
Recent investments into many fine modern facilities have been sensibly managed to keep the school moving forward at the same time as keeping fees at a competitive level, making Wellington School exceptional value for money.

At all points of entry, students living overseas will be sent assessment papers.
Wellington Junior School occupies an adjacent site. Opened ten years ago and housed in a beautiful modern building, it shares many of the Senior School's facilities enabling pupils to experience a very broad, practical curriculum. It is fully co-educational and takes pupils from 3 - 11, with boarding options in years 5 and 6. There are currently 200 pupils.
