Worth School

School Profile

'We believe we're a leading school because as a Benedictine school we encourage our pupils to develop their own individuality whilst living within a community that inspires learning, worship, friendship and service; Worth is known for its strong community values, high academic standards, friendly atmosphere and the excellence of its all-round education.'

At Worth, we see our pupils as 'Lanterns to Light'. Inspiring pupils to think, learn, create, imagine and perform is pivotal if each individual is to develop their intellectual potential. This is achieved by the highest standards of teaching and also by the application of new approaches to learning and exciting opportunities in which to discover and learn. The school offers a broad curriculum at GCSE and in the Sixth Form, where students can opt for the International Baccalaureate Diploma or A Levels. Examination results are high and pupils enter the very best universities in the UK and abroad, including Oxbridge. Investment in new facilities and teaching staff continues, including the construction of a new girls' boarding and day House.

Beyond the classroom, pupils benefit from a range of societies, lectures, trips and visits - enriching the academic life of the school whilst encouraging everyone to aim high. The school has a long tradition of community involvement, reaching out to others through an extensive voluntary service programme. Over a quarter of the school's students participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Sports facilities include extensive playing fields, an eight-hole golf course, fencing salle, dance studio and fitness suite. Stables are available on site for students' horses.

The drama and music departments benefit from a purpose-built Performing Arts Centre housing a theatre, recording studio, sound-proofed 'rock room', rehearsal rooms, recital room and music classrooms. There is a flourishing choir, school orchestra and school jazz band and more than 20 teachers are available for individual instrumental tuition. Drama also flourishes with regular productions at all levels and overseas tours. The school joins forces from time to time with other local schools and the standard of performance is exceptional.

Community at Worth
"The culture within the school is that of a large extended family enshrined in the Benedictine values that underpin the ethos of the school" Ofsted report

"There is a real sense of community of which we are all extremely proud." Year 12 student

The Benedictine tradition of community life underpins everything at Worth School. About two-thirds of students at Worth are from Roman Catholic families, but there are a significant number of Christians from other denominations. Equal members of the community in every way, non-Catholic pupils easily integrate in the school and bring a different perspective which is most welcome. The School Chaplaincy team includes an Anglican Chaplain, as well as Catholic Chaplains and lay members.
